- Read and understand these instructions prior beginning. Believe us, it helps!
- Begin by cleaning the surface of the item the decal will be applied to. We have found that using Windex or another generic window cleaner that works well on glass or metal surfaces is ideal. Make sure the surface is completely dry before proceeding to step 2. Failure to completely dry the surface will cause the decal not to adhere properly to the surface.
NOTE: Sometimes products containing silicone such as Rain-X, Armor All and others remain behind after cleaning the surface with window cleaner. You can try using isopropyl alcohol (with no additives) to clean the spot and if that doesn't work try a small amount of acetone on a paper towel being careful not to touch any painted surfaces.
- Slowly peal the paper backing off the transfer tape/vinyl decal. Use caution as not to handle the vinyl decal as the oil on your skin will degrade the adhesive on the vinyl and cause it not adhere properly.
- Center the transfer tape above the area where you wish to apply the decal. It helps if someone else can help with this next step.
- When the decal is positioned where you want it, continue to hold it slightly above the surface of the item, and have the other person lightly press the center of the transfer tape to the item. Then working from the center outward toward the edges, slowly press down the remainder of the decal until it is fully down on the surface.
NOTE: DO NOT attempt to lift the decal once it touches the surface of the item. If you do, you risk pulling the vinyl away from the transfer tape and cause misalignment, or worse, create wrinkles in the decal. Pulling the vinyl off the surface and re-applying can cause the decal to prematurely fail.
- Using the paper side of the decal carrier (not the shiny side) briskly rub the surface of the transfer tape until all of the vinyl is firmly down on the surface of the item.
- SLOWLY peel away the transfer tape leaving the decal in place.
- Again, with the paper side of the decal carrier, rub the surface of the decal ensuring that all edges of the decal are firmly applied to the surface of the item.
- Congratulations! Your decal is now in place and should last for many years to come.
Addendum - Additional instructions for plastic surfaces and cases
NOTE: Applying decals to certain plastics may present a problem. If you intend on putting your decal on a plastic surface, clean the area using the instructions provided above, then thoroughly clean the area again with alcohol.
Once dry, heat the area with a hair dryer. This will help the vinyl stick to the plastic.
If the vinyl fails to stick, (which it shouldn't), apply the decal and SLOWLY peel back the transfer tape while holding the actual decal in place.
We find the hardest part is getting the decal off the transfer tape. Rub the area thoroughly once it's applied to the surface with a little more heat and you should be good to go. I hope this helps.
